Vacuum Formed Lamp | Personal project, 2025

HIPS, sapele, smart bulb, 3D printed fixtures

Using a broken bowl as a mould, the orange lampshade was vacuum-formed from a sheet of 1.5mm high-impact polystyrene (HIPS). After cutting the profile from the sheet, an area of the perimeter was reheated and shaped to allow the lighting cable to pass through easily. The lamp assembly was then wired up.

To hang the lamp, I turned a sapele spindle - inspired by Jacobean and Victorian bobbin furniture - around which the lighting cable could be wrapped.

To finish off the piece, I designed and 3D printed cable clips to keep the wiring tidy.
