Low Roman Workbench | Personal project, 2026

British oak, British ash, sapele, hide glue

Using compound angle wedged mortise and tenon joinery, the low Roman workbench allows you to work with timber without access to a full size workbench, or even outdoors. It's based on Chris Schwarz' plan for the Saalburg bench found over at Lost Art Press.

Alongside the planing stop, the bench can be fitted with other workholding gizmos such as dog holes for holdfasts or a bench vise.
